This quality game-used specimen originates from the Phillies’ 2008 World Championship season, and shows numerous white scuff marks and blue ink transfer stains. Deep stitch impressions and cleat marks are visible on the hitting surface and barrel, a moderate amount of Pine Tar is present and the handle features a slight crack. All of which indicate heavy game use! The blonde mark visible on the handle identifies the face grain of the bat which is now a mandatory marking per MLB for all maple bats. The TECO testing was also started following a large number of shattered maple bats during games, stamped “TECO” on the knob. The bat’s date of manufacture (5/25/08) and Ryan’s #6 are also noted on the knob along with a silver #6 on the bat’s end. In 2008 Ryan Howard finished 2nd in the NL MVP balloting, while leading the league with 48 home runs and 146 RBIs.
