He was an 11 time All Star (1933, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1946) and part of 14 World Series Champion teams (1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956). The Yankees retired his no. 8 in honor of his great career. Mantle anchored the outfield and the batting order for many years throughout the 50s and 60s, was part of several championship teams and was wildly popular with both the fans and press. He was a 20x All Star and part of 7 World Champion teams. We was the MLB Triple Crown winner in 1956 and elected to the Hall of Fame in 1975. His no. 7 is likewise retired by the Yankees.
